Breaking into the Watch Dogs 2 Haum
In this play session, I start out with a fun side mission to spread DedSec …
When you have more time to talk about games, than actually play them.
DedSec is the vigilante hacker group that you work with or for throughout the Watch Dogs game series. They are basically a hacktivist group that uses their hacking skills to point out injustices in the world. The group fights against government surveillance and corporations use of personal data.
They are often represented by character art like back in the AOL days. This includes things like skulls and old school monsters drawn using just letters, numbers and symbols with various DedSec logos. It’s a call back to the days before animated gifs and memes.
DedSec got it’s start fighting against the ctOS surveillance system in Chicago. With the help of Aiden Pearce, they exposed the vulnerabilities of the system and how it could be exploited for nefarious use. Despite their efforts, Blume was able to sell their new ctOS version to other cities.
In Watch Dogs 2, you take a more leading roll in DedSec as Marcus Holloway. Your goal is to build up more followers to give the group the power to take down Blume and other bad actors. It takes on the added intrusions made possible by the growth of social media. In the end, you take down the CTO of the company and damage it’s reputation, but it’s not the end of Blume.
Watch Dogs Legion gives DedSec new antagonists in Albion, Zero Day and Clan Kelley. The group is blamed for terrorist attacks, captured or killed, before you are given the task of building it back up. The interesting hook in this latest addition is you play as multiple team members that you have total control over recruiting.
