Starfield is Game of the Generation
Since the last time I wrote about Starfield, a lot has happened in my game …
When you have more time to talk about games, than actually play them.
Space, the final frontier, but seriously it is the era of space games. With the government creating a new branch of the military, Space Force, and the success of Space X, it’s a new space race. The dream used to be to fly, but now it’s to travel among the planets and the Stars.
The Mass Effect Series gave the world a great story of choices with consequences to protect the universe from an existential threat, the Reapers. Drama in the game takes place across starships, space stations and planets. You balance politics with RPG elements and gun fights as a new part of the galactic council.
Star Citizen is a game that has been development forever, promising to be a true space sim. Newtonian mechanics and persistent servers to store what you have or what you lose. It a game that will let you get out of bed, put on your space suit, get into your spaceship, take off, quantum travel to another system, land on a planet, get out, walk around, etc.. All with crazy good graphics and sound.
Elite Dangerous has allowed fans to live their dreams of being a space trucker, outlaw or bounty hunter. It’s a game played exclusively from the cockpit of you vehicle whether that be a ship or a rover. There are also points of interest to discover while exploring and later they plan to add the ability to walk around (aka space legs).
No Man’s Sky is probably the most hyped game that fell far short at release, but more than made up for it with free updates since. The game was hyped for the randomly generated plants, animals, planets and solar systems. This design enabled pilots to land on planets and drive their rovers across the entire thing. They have far expanded the game into a more multiplayer experience with extras like mechs, base building, underwater exploration, freighters, and a lot more.
There are many exciting space games coming down the road too: Squadron 42 (campaign for Star Citizen), Dual Universe and Starfield (Bethesda’s next game).
