There’s no denying the new generation of Microsoft Flight Simulator is very impressive technology. When the initial “new” version released, it was insane flying anywhere on earth. All of that done with up to date lighting and weather. It looked great and eventually performance caught up. The missing piece was an actual game.
Fast forward to MS Flight Sim 2024 and that latter problem is solved. There’s now progression, careers and even a mode to photograph animals in far off locations. I was excited to try it day one on Game Pass. Unfortunately like so many others, the only “playing” I did was on the login queue screen.
As of right now, MS Flight Sim 2024 is stuck at login. I’m basically playing MS Login Queue Simulator. The current fixes from Microsoft revolve around basically waiting for something to happen or restarting. I think I’m part of the problem. I let my PC sit at the login queue screen while I went about doing other things.
I’d imagine a ton of other people did the same thing as me, which likely resulted in a DDoS-like attack on the MS Flight Sim 2024 servers. My guess is that Microsoft vastly underestimated how many people wanted to play a sim. They probably did not realize the hidden potential of a more realistic and modern version of a game like Pilot Wings.
The problems will likely subside as more people give up, but that’s not a real solution. MS owns Azure so they should have better scale up/down settings for their servers. Probably the worst thing I saw are people that did login and completed the download only to have to restart. The surprise for them is even the download started from scratch.
Good luck to everyone trying to login. Those that did get in had a good time, mostly. and I guess this is just the universe telling to finally finish Baldur’s Gate 3.
