Rocket League Extra Modes
A game filled with equal parts fun and frustration. It gets even more interesting with …
When you have more time to talk about games, than actually play them.
Rumble is the best Rocket League game mode by far. There are so many tryhards in the game that spend half of most days practicing ridiculous tricks to troll people in the game. The randomly generated power ups that rumble offers helps level the playing fields. It’s a game mode that can knock down even pro players with the right mix of power ups.
For the uninitiated, Rumble will give you cartoon like power ups that include things like: haymaker, magnetizer, power hitter, spikes, swapper, tornado, disruptor, plunger, freezer, grappling hook and the boot. You can use the power ups to punch the ball, grab, freeze, etc. All the fancy dribbling in the world won’t prevent a good power up from making the player look dumb.
Each random Rumble draw of the power ups happen every 10 seconds. This keeps things from being complete chaos. It does provide just enough surprise to keep games interesting.
Haymaker is a cartoon style fist attached to springs that will hit the ball straight on. It makes it great for defense and for shooting directly to the goal. It will often end a lot of Rumble games with its power.
Magnetizer pulls the ball toward your car and gives you a yoyo like ability. It’s not great for defense due to how easy it is to knock loose of the magnet, but it make it hard for the other team to hit it straight on when dribble or fly through the air.
Rumble’s Power hitter puts a yellow aura around your car. Hitting the ball sends it flying at fast speed. If you hit the other team’s car, it will demolish them with the lightest touch.
The spikes are especially annoying. They attach the ball to the car and allow you zig and zag with the ball. It also lets you fly through the air with it attached. It takes another power up or 2 hits to knock it loose. It’s the most frustrating of the power ups to defend against.
The swapper power up in Rumble swaps you car with the target car on the other team. Most people refer to this as the teleport (tele for short). It’s great for pulling the goalie or negating the other team’s power up.
That tornado power up will suck the ball up like a twister and launch it forward. It will also twirl an opposing players around in your cyclone. Good for causing havoc near the goal or throwing the ball with a curve.
Disruptor is like a Rumble turbo boost that you activate on opposing players. It forces them to deal with flying around the pitch at fast speeds. Make it hard for them to line up any shots or stay in their goal.
Plunger is the cartoon version of the real thing with a bungie attached. It will put suction on the ball and pull it towards you. Great for pulling the ball behind you while you drive towards the goal.
The freezer stops the ball in place, on the ground or in the air. It’s great at stopping the ball before it goes into your goal, or freeze it in place to put the ball on a tee for you to hit.
Grappling hook power ups pull you towards the ball to hit it directly. The farther you are from the ball, the longer it takes for it to pull you towards it. The long length of time can lead to people scoring an own goal in rumble when the direction they are pointing at gets changed.
Boot is exactly that, but cartoon style with a spring loaded activation. It can kick other players away from your goal or out of theirs. It’s great thing to watch the goalie get booted out right before you score.
