When you have more time to talk about games, than actually play them.
VR, or Virtual Reality, is the future of gaming. It might be a while before it could replace flat screen gaming, but I believe it will happen. VR might not be the must have tech just yet, but it has made great strides in recent years.
The last Half Life game was VR only which gives you an idea of how the future of gaming is shaping up. Valve has always been ahead of the curve on emerging game tech with their HL games. More of the bigger studios started to jump on board like EA with Star Wars Squadrons and Medal of Honor VR.
Virtual Reality headsets have become more affordable with the likes of the Oculus Quest 2 and has brought the cost down to previous console generation levels. It also reduces the friction of adoption with how easy it is to get setup.
The highest quality experience still requires more setup like the Valve Index. Much like all PC gaming, the extra effort required pays off with better visuals and more flexibility.
Once the cost can get down below $200 and the headset can be downsized to big glasses, then VR will really take off with the masses. Think about how Facebook started with college kids connecting and now even the most obscure members of you family seam to use it.
With them in charge of the most affordable headset, they likely plan to use the same tactics they used to get their company to this point.
After all the great reviews for Vertigo 2, I decided to play Vertigo Remastered VR. I figured it’s short and good background to get into Vertigo 2. There’s no doubt it’s an indie game, but the level of VR gameplay is impressive. Back in the 90’s, I played Pilotwings on my friends Super Nintendo and it hooked me in. The first Ultrawings was an obvious VR attempt at similar gameplay. Utrawings 2 takes things even farther by bringing together that nostalgia for me in the current VR tech. Graphics are simple, but it’s such a great game … Read moreUltrawings 2 May be Pilotwings VR
Vox Machinae VR was on my Steam wish list for awhile, but I never pulled the trigger. Now it’s on my Viveport Infinity subscription with a full single player story (was always multiplayer only), so I finally dove in. Without a doubt, it’s messy and very much an indie effort, but damn it has so … Read moreVox Machinae VR is Messy, but Great Potential
Back when I was buying fans for my new bequiet! tower, I decided to finally buy a Valve Index USB Fan. I figured while cooling my PC, why not cool my face and screens when playing VR. Valve Index screens fog up for me often so any help was welcome. Glad to report I was … Read moreMy Valve Index USB Fan Fog Fix
I finally had time this past weekend to play Phasmophobia coop with my son and his friend. It is, without a doubt, much more fun playing with other people. Plus, we were all playing in VR for extra immersion. I did not have a chance to try with random people, but coop with people you … Read moreGhost Hunting Coop in Phasmophobia
A couple weeks ago, I saw an article about a ghost hunter game in VR, just in time for Halloween. VR is plagued by a lot of people throwing together a game trying to cash in on whatever is popular at the time. I didn’t bother reading the article, assuming this was one of those, … Read moreChasing Ghosts in VR with Phasmophobia
