When you have more time to talk about games, than actually play them.
Star Wars Squadrons is a game from Motive and Electronic arts that recaptures the magic of X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. There’s a full (and fun) single player campaign and several multiplayer modes. You are able to fly several starships for both the Galactic Empire and New Republic/Rebel Alliance.
You are able to play the full game in campaign or online modes in either classic flat screen or VR. I have committed to ONLY play it in virtual reality. It is surreal to be able to look around the entire cockpit of the Star Wars Squadrons ships.
In the single player campaign, you bounce between the Rebels and the Empire for the same story. It gives you the perspective of both sides of the events in the Star Wars Squadrons story. The story is actually pretty good and it gives you time between missions to interact with the other pilots for extra narrative. Even the briefings are fantastic in VR with the holographic table in all its glory.
In Star Wars Squadrons multiplayer, you can play the standard team deathmatch dogfight type of mode, but the real winner is fleet battles. In Fleet Battles, there are multiple stages where it weaves a bit of story into the mix.
If your side wins a round, then the other team has to retreat back to protect their capital ships while you carry out bombing runs. If those are successfully in Star Wars Squadrons fleet battles, then final mission is taking out their capital ship. Now the fun part is when you lose a round after winning, it pushes you back like a tug of war.
